Asake’s Aura Needs to Be Studied
Korty x Asake?
I watched Korty’s documentary with Asake, and I have a few things to sayyy.
First of all, the whole production was flawless. Big ups to Korty and her team.
I remember the first time I got hooked on Asake’s music - it was in 2022, when he and Olamide released Omo Ope. Mehn, that song literally made my Detty December littt. I still know the lyrics word for word! Twas that good!
As typical of Korty’s interview fashion, she didn’t fire rapid 20 questions like a BBC interview. This… this was 33 minutes of pure excellence, artistry, and dopeness. We got to see Asake’s creative flow, his daily life - the man, Asake himself.
I loved that he communicated in his Yoruba dialect. He didn’t see the need to “blow” big grammar. As a Yoruba girl, there’s nothing I love more than Yoruba people speaking Yoruba proudly. and this shows that our authenticity as Africans shines through the MOST when we show up reppin’ our roots - and that starts with speaking our indigenous language(s).
Another part that got me smiling was the Lagos Eyo homecoming celebration - the prayers, the chants, and the eulogies. I had pure goosebumps watching them perform. And having his mum by his side throughout made it 10x cooler.
Korty also gave us a peek into Asake’s lifestyle and his team. I just dey hear sprisprispri - accent na water… fine men dey him team abeg … Toki, if you read this, call me please lol.
It was so beautiful seeing him with his family, his team -who, from what I could tell, were more like family than employees. I was cheesing so hard watching them play together and eat together. You could tell the man is family-oriented at his core.
He also took us through his journey - from his childhood, to the influence of his parents, to how he fought to forge his own path, and so on. And according to Iya Ahmed (his mum), Asake na stubborn boy 😂 One could feel her worries for him in her prayers. she cried, Korty cried, wo, me sef I cried!
Before I forget oh, the mini-flirting with Korty? check 28:44 –29:20. Kortyyy, I see you girl, I’m down with whatever you’re down for, okayyy! I had to rewind the whole “wife” part. As I type this, I still dey smile sef
Point to note: nobody on earth is ever touching a Yoruba man’s aura. Their mouth is like sugar (you will understand better when you watch)
I’m getting distracted again… lol.
From Asake’s words, you could tell he has depth - clear about his vision, in tune with his spirituality. Always referring to his own music like big flex much? He kept mentioning how he always knew he was destined for greatness. His self-esteem? up like mad - and I rate it!
Last but not least, I would definitely want Korty to direct my life’s biography. Her voice, that effortless “I-am-gisting-with-a-friend” vibe, coupled with the storytelling, continuity, and cinematography - in fact, the whole production was an entire masterpiece.
If I liked Asake and his music before, I definitely love him and his music now. I mean, the documentary was soooo good, I watched it twice.

The brilliancy in that episode was so teaaa. I love how Korty allows us feel the personality of the artist she's meeting through the ambience of the video. Before this one with Adake, the one she had with Asa had to be my favorite one. I just really love Korty's workkk.

This piece was everything. You used your words to walk me through the interview. I felt every part of it, I smiled and laughed. Asake is an epitome of greatness, he knows it and his mother knows it too but korty got to revel in that greatness(I'm not jealous btw😔). A yoruba man who is not ashamed of his roots gives volume to how much of a down-to-earth person he is. I remember when some of his fans said he always had Yoruba lyrics and he should cut it down because they don't understand; what did ololade do? He made Yoruba afrobeats! His closeness with his mother is heartfelt. Asake is THE man. I do pray that guy contacts you too😙
